The Tibetan bridge in Claviere, Italy is the longest Tibetan bridge in the world. If you find yourself in the area between June and September, it’s a must do. Not only is the town adorable, but there is so much to do in the Summer & the weather is perfectly cool. Golf, hiking, climbing, cross the bridge, mountain biking, camping, canyoning, trekking…the list goes on.

Open weekends only in June & September then everyday in July & August, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

How to get there:

TRAIN:

The nearest train station to Claviere is in Oulx (station name: Oulx-Cesana-Claviere-Sestriere).

BUS:

Once in Oulx, there is a bus schedule outside the station, but you should check the schedule before you go, as few buses go to Claviere. Claviere is roughly 40 minute bus ride.

There is a separate free shuttle for you and your bike from July 13 to August 25, 2013. The shuttle is a large van, not a bus, and runs from each location only 4 times a day. It doesn’t always run on time, but it is free.

TAXI:

A taxi would cost around 50€ from Oulx/Sauze d’Oulx to Claviere

Local Taxi Service, Roberto drove us around when we didn’t use the bus service.

Once in Claviere, the bus will drop you off in the town & you need to walk back toward the front of the town to find the hut for the Ponte Tibetano, just past the long parking area. You will see a banner along the fence, flags with the name on it & the hut where you will pay & retrieve your gear. Here you can also see the last part of the bridge.

COST:

10€ per adult, 5€ per child under 14. Plus 5€ for equipment. You can also add rock climbing to the crossing of the bridge. Make sure you add it before you go to get a helmet!

You will have to hike up to a small chapel then down a bit to get to the beginning of the bridge. It is a beautiful way to see the gorge & not for the faint hearted.

PLACES TO STAY:

We liked Sauze d’Oulx and the Hotel Gran Trun. Beautiful area just above Oulx (15 min bus/taxi ride, 20€ taxi between Oulx & Sauze d’Oulx). All of the towns seemed perfect to stay, so choose what works best for you, especially if you don’t want to plan your days around public transportation.
